UBI/Biophoton/Ozone Therapy

Healing Arts Center Is proud to offer Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation therapy - or UBI - at our clinic. UBI therapy, also called Biophoton or bioilluminescence therapy, is a safe, proven form of light therapy that helps eradicate conditions caused by bacteria, viruses, mold, yeast, fungi, and many other pathogens. It helps normalize body functions and metabolism and has been used effectively on over 1 million patients in the past 80 years with little or no side effects. It can save lives, prevent further degeneration, and even reverse chronic disease conditions.

Here are some commonly asked questions about UBI treatments:

What is the history of this therapy? How long has it been around?

Ultraviolet therapy has been around for over 120 years. Dr. Finsen began work with UV radiation with skin conditions in the 1880s. In 1903, he won the Nobel Prize for his work in treating 300 people suffering from Lupus. The first blood irradiation took place in 1928 by Dr. Knott, who cured a woman with septicemia who was near death. By 1942, 6520 patients had been treated with UV therapy, which was successful nearly every time with complete absence of any serious harmful effects. Since then, many practitioners in America and Europe have employed this therapy to treat over 1 million patients with over 300,000 studies and tests, and there has not been one documented case of serious side effects or death during these years of testing and treating. Over 60,000 treatments were given last year alone by over 3000 practitioners.

So why haven't we heard more about UBI therapy?

The dramatic advances in antibiotics, vaccines, and steroid medications in the 1940s and 50s put a halt to interest in this form of therapy. It simply didn't generate as much income as drug therapy, even though it was illogical to set aside a therapy that could eradicate viral infections like pneumonia and hepatitis that are impervious to antibiotics. Special interest groups took over, and focus in this low-cost (though highly effective) therapy came to a standstill. However, with the development of multi-drug resistant bacteria and toxic viral threats like HIV, there has been renewed interest.

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure for a UBI treatment is much like that of having blood taken. While the person sits in a comfortable chair, a very small gauge needle is inserted into a vein and a small amount of blood is extracted. The blood is drawn into a tube which has a little heparin mixed in so the blood will remain liquid and not coagulate. The blood is further mixed with a normal saline solution and then passes through the irradiator machine where it is exposed to a controlled amount of ultraviolet energy in therapeutic UV bands. The blood is then infused smoothly back into the person's vein. Patients are usually not even aware that anything out of the ordinary is happening. The entire procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

On occasion and if warranted, ozone may also be added to the blood and re-infused back into the body, as these two therapies together provide complementary effects. Dosages of ozone may be gradually increased to heighten the effectiveness of therapy. Healing Arts Center also offers Biophoton therapy in the sublingual (under the tongue) method without the use of intravenous punctures. This therapy may need more frequent treatments to achieve the same effects.

How does it work?

Ultraviolet therapy has been used for many years in hospitals for a variety of reasons - everything from sterilizing surgical instruments to helping jaundiced babies by putting them "under the light" to helping TB patients recover through "fresh air and sunshine."

The killing of infectious organisms is a useful quality of UV light, but more importantly it stimulates the immune system and re-establishes normal biological functions in the body. In simple terms, it cures by stimulating the body's own immune response.

By treating small quantities of blood with UV light, the body's defenses are organized rapidly to destroy all invading organisms, whether viral, fungal, or bacterial. The immune system is regenerated and rapidly brings the body back into balance.

Furthermore, by destroying the pathogen, an "autogenous" (self-generated) vaccine is produced, which in turn activates the rest of the body to attack the infection or condition. This vaccine-effect is coupled with the radiation given off by the treated blood which has been re-instilled in the body (induced secondary radiation) and the remaining pathogens in the blood are rapidly destroyed. This all acts as a powerful regulatory and normalizing agent in the body's systems and restores balance in the autonomic nervous system.

UBI treatments also have a deadly effect on toxins. Many pathogens kill by producing a toxin. UBI treatments inactivate toxins without destroying the ability of the toxin to promote the production of pathogen-specific antibodies in the blood to help prevent and fight all further infections. It helps build your army to keep you healthy!

UBI treatments also increase the oxygen absorption by the blood. It helps carry oxygen to all diseased tissue, enabling a more rapid healing, as diseased tissue is always oxygen-deficient.

What conditions can be helped by UBI?

There are many!

Bacterial conditions = Lyme disease, pneumonia, septicemia, wound infections, peritonitis, recurrent skin infections, acne, MRSA

Viral infections = HIV, hepatitis, influenza, herpes simplex/zoster, mononucleosis, viral pneumonia

Inflammatory conditions = arthritis, bursitis, fibrositis, nephritis, uveitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis

Circulation disorders = varicose veins, PVD, vascular headaches, DVT, thrombophlebitis, diabetic ulcers

Cancer = lymphoma

Autoimmune diseases = Fibromyalgia, lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis/eczema, psoriatic arthritis, Raynauds disease, sclera derma, MS

Respiratory diseases = COPD, asthma, emphysema, sinusitis, bronchitis, TB

Other conditions = Fungal/yeast infection, decreases swelling, cirrhosis, tetanus, chronic fatigue, neuropathy, botulism, seizures, diabetes

Overall, UBI therapy has been shown to have a positive effect on over 60 diseases. For a full listing, see the sources referenced below.

Are there any conditions which UBI therapy has not been found effective?

Bacterial endocarditis and cases of severe colitis have not been helped significantly by UBI therapy.

Is it safe?

Short answer: yes.

In a study involving 2,380 sessions, only 1.3% had complications such as bruising at the IV site, shivering, some dizziness, and nosebleeds. In another study of 10,000 treatments, only 6 people had reactions including headaches, temporary fever, chills, and moderate stomach spasms. In another study, 726 persons were treated for a total of 3500 sessions with no complications.

How many treatments will I need before I see effects?

This depends greatly on how long the person has been ill. Everyone must be evaluated individually. For acute conditions, such as strept throat or a bad cold, people usually respond within a few days. With minor illnesses such as those mentioned here, 1 or 2 treatments should be sufficient.

For chronic conditions, amount of treatments will vary based upon the severity and length of illness. Generally speaking, we usually advise 2 treatments per week for 2 weeks, then 1 treatment per week for 2 weeks. We will then re-evaluate the condition being treated. Further treatments may or may not be needed. In treating asthmatics, leukemia, and atopic dermatitis, frequency of treatments may be slower.

UBI treatments have cumulative effects. Each treatment builds upon and enhances the effects of the previous treatment. The action (and results) may be immediate, somewhat delayed, or markedly delayed. Overall, there is about an 80% success rating.

Are there any side effects or adverse reactions?

If used concurrently with sulfa drugs, there may be photosensitization including some swelling in the tissues of the brain, skin, intestines, and kidneys. Sulfa drugs should be allowed a "washout" period of 7-10 days before and after UBI treatments. Psychotropic medications such as pain killers, anxiety, and depression pills should be used with caution as UBI treatments may increase their effects. Most studies show no adverse reactions in persons taking antidepressants.

There may be some reactions due to death of the bacteria, like a Herxheimer reaction in Lyme disease. In the first 24 hours following a UBI treatment, you may feel a die-off reaction similar to flu-like symptoms, including fever, chills, achiness, and fatigue. This may last up to several days, however Healing Arts recommends a pro-wave detoxifying footbath to curb these reactions. These reactions will decrease as the course of treatment progresses. Some IBS sufferers may have a temporary increase in loose stools.

For those people with chronic diseases such as asthma, sinusitis, and rheumatoid disease, there may be an aggravation of usual symptoms, no worse than the pre-existing symptoms, for the first 4-5 days following the initial UBI treatment. These are much less likely to occur after a second treatment and rarely after a third.

Occasionally, a rare and very mild depressant effect has been noted with accompanying fatigue.

Are there any restrictions or suggestions before or after a treatment?

We at Healing Arts advise clients to refrain from taking all non-vital medications and/or supplements the day of treatment. This includes antibiotics. You should NOT take any antioxidant supplements on the day of and the day after your treatment, such as vitamin C. For sulfa drugs, see above section.

Those taking thyroid medications may need to decrease their dosages over time to avoid excess elevations of metabolism which may occur when combined with UBI therapy. Consult with your prescribing MD prior to initiating any changes in medication routines.

Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 2 hours after a treatment.

Assist your body in eliminating wastes and toxins by drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water daily, preferably between meals.

Make sure you are having at least one bowel movement daily.

Limit cell phone and computer usage for 2-3 hours after treatment, as electro-magnetic fields can disturb the UV therapy.

What is the cost per treatment?

A basic level UBI treatment is $175. We also offer advanced treatments where we infuse two passes of blood through the UBI machine. This runs $225.

If ozone is added to the UBI treatment, we work the dosage of ozone up gradually. The cost of adding ozone ranges from $25 more up to $200 more, as we can work up to a very high dosage referred to as a "5-pass." Sometimes, people prefer ozone without the UBI treatment, and prices for ozone alone range from $125 - $250. The practitioners at Healing Arts Center can help you decide which therapies are best for you.

A chiropractic adjustment is also recommended before the first UBI and/or ozone treatment to help align and calm the nervous system.

In conclusion…

Kenneth J. Dillon wrote in the Scientia Press in his article, "Ten Key Points about Biophotonic Therapy":

"Biophotonic therapy is arguably the single best model of the activation of the entire immune system in the treatment of infectious disease."

It is preventive medicine in the truest sense of the word, as it enables the body to heal itself.
